Thursday, November 13, 2014:  CA GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVE AT THE SOLANA BEACH LIBRARY

Speaker of the Assembly, Toni G. Atkins, is the highest-ranking officer of the Assembly, and is elected by the assembly members at the beginning of each two-year legislative session. Myrna Zambrano, Special Assistant to the Speaker, will visit the Solana Beach Library Thursday, November 13, from 10 to 11am. She will be available to assist with issues you have (e.g. DMV, unemployment, consumer complaints, property tax, Medi-Cal). She will also welcome your suggestions for changes to current California laws, and will have available information on a variety of state topics. Care to schedule a tour of the state capitol? She can get it done!

Saturday, November 15, 2014:  ‘MEET THE AUTHOR’ AT SOLANA BEACH LIBRARY

C.L. Hoang, author of the award-winning Once Upon a Mulberry Field, will be at the Solana Beach library on Saturday, November 15, at 2pm. Mr. Hoang was born and raised in South Vietnam and came to the United States in the 1970s. He graduated from Cal Berkeley, and works as an electronic engineer, with eleven patents to his name to date. Once Upon a Mulberry Field, a love story set at the height of the Vietnam War, is his first novel. Captain Dave Carey, USN retired, former POW in the Hanoi Hilton says: “Through a unique insider’s view, this intriguing novel gives the reader a close-up look at personal aspects of the war. Mr. Hoang has captured that turbulent chapter in the US and South Vietnam history.”
Vietnamese refreshments will be served. This program is part of the California Reads, War Comes Home program.

Tuesday, November 18, 2014:  ROAD SCHOLAR PROGRAM AT THE SOLANA BEACH LIBRARY

If you enjoy travel, learning about and exploring new places, and meeting people who share a love of adventure, come to the Solana Beach library Tuesday, November 18, 6:30pm to hear about Road Scholar! You may know Road Scholar as ‘Elderhostel’, an organization founded in 1975 to provide adults lifelong learning opportunities at value rates. In 2010 Elderhostel was renamed Road Scholar; ‘Road’ connotes a journey, ‘Scholar’ reflects a deep appreciation for learning.
This program is the first of a series we are calling TLC: Tuesday Library Chat. We hope you will join us and enjoy the programs!

FRIENDS NIGHT OUT (LA COLONIA COMMUNITY CENTER,  715 VALLEY AVENUE, SOLANA BEACH, CA 92075)

Our next Friends Night Out will be on Tuesday night, December 9th at 6:30pm in the Solana Beach Library and will feature the Sweethearts of Swing.

Join the Sweethearts of Swing as they sing and capture the music and hits of the Andrews Sisters. Their USO style show will commemorate Pearl Harbor Day and incorporate holiday songs that the Andrews Sisters sang during World War II.

The Friends Night Out will be held at La Colonia Community Center located at  715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach, CA, 92075.
